THREE FAVORITE PRAYERS

D. Scott Miller over at the Catholic Youth Ministry Blog asked me what my favorite prayer meme was. It’s an easy answer: Marcel Marceau. I have all his albums.

But then I learned that “meme” is different than “mime.” According to Wikipedia, an internet meme is a “concept that spreads quickly over the internet.” He challenged me and four other bloggers to share three devotional prayers that mean a lot to us. And then I am to challenge five other bloggers.

So it’s kind of like a chain letter, except I don’t get in a car crash if I don’t do it, and I don’t get a million dollars if I do.

So here they are:

The Jesus Prayer: Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner. It’s a very simple prayer that I often repeat over and over. It can be shortened to: Jesus, mercy. Someone once said that God’s greatest attribute is His mercy. I think about that a lot.

The Memorare:

Remember, O must gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known, that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, we fly unto thee, O Virgin of Virgins our mother. To thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful. O mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not our petitions, but in they mercy, hear and answer us. Amen.

I love the confidence of this prayer! I pray it every night before I go to bed.

And finally....

St. Teresa’s Bookmark: Titled that way because it was discovered tucked into one of the St. Teresa of Avila’s books.

Let nothing trouble you
Let nothing frighten you
Everything passes
God never changes
Patience obtains all
Whoever has God
Wants for nothing
God alone is enough

I loved this prayer so much I wrote a song based on those lyrics, Let Nothing Trouble You. It really helps me keep perspective on my life.

It’s actually more challenging for me to find five bloggers that haven’t been tagged yet than to come up with three inspirational prayers :) So now I’m sending this meme out to Todd LemieuxOddwalkMike PatinKris Frank, and Nic Frank. Yes, it’s kind of cheap to include the Frank brothers since they haven’t blogged in a while, but I’m hoping this gives them good motivation to do so:)
